Why do patients keep coming to the hospital without their hearing aids?
Nate asked:
not just the er (which i can kind of understand), but scheduled visits. you know you are coming, you know when, you know people will need to talk to you, and you don’t bring it because you are____? i’ll never get it.

Honestly, I think people who supposedly wear hearing aids, actually don’t wear them. Some say they are uncomfortable, they can’t hear with them and so forth. The biggest issue is that they don’t understand that it may take repeated trips back to the hearing aid store to get them properly adjusted. So they don’t wear them and drive the rest of us crazy! And because they don’t wear them, they usually forget them!
My mother has had hearing aids for years and refuses to wear them. I can’t make her understand that her refusal is just another way that she is “isolating” herself from the rest of the world. Then she complains about she can’t hear certain people when the speak. It’s one of those nasty cycles that no one wins.

Unfortunately, some people are just stupid like that. If you’re really mean (like me) just mouth what you’re saying. Then they’ll think they’ve gone completely deaf and freak out. Unless you work in a hospital and that’ll get you fired. Then don’t do that.

I can understand if they are staying in hospital cause I was in hospital for a few days last year and a couple of old blokes I got to know had their hearing aids stolen, but I can`t understand why you would leave them at home if you were going for an appointment it just makes it hard for everyone involved!

There is a problem with theft of personal items during hospital stays. Hearing aids are expensive to replace if they are stolen, and most hospitals will not take responsibility for stolen personal belongings.
