People who wear hearing Aids are perceived as being Handicapped, Crazy YES, but that’s the fact of the matter.

One issue is how well they work. Most people with glasses see as well with their glasses as those who don’t need them see without. Most people with hearing aids are plagued by roaring from the wind and background noise. I understand this has improved some but that is still the perception. A lot more young people wear glasses than hearing aids so there is less stigma of getting old associated with them. As far as I know, there are no designer hearing aids.

Spectacles (glasses) have been worn for many many years. (ben Franklins time)
People are more comforatable with them because children teens etc wear them in most of the world.
In my whole entire school of 500 there is not one person with a hearing aid, but maybe 300 with glasses. (estimate)
Sometimes older people dont like to feel dependant on certain things, it makes them feel weak and of course old.
example: People in the 1920’s and 1930’s didnt like going to hospitals because it meant something was seriously wrong with you.
Now people go to the ER because they have papercuts lol
But people who grew up in that time didnt like going to hospitals still even to get check ups. Get what I mean?
Hope I helped!

I think jakijo is onto the answer. A lot of people wear glasses and kinda understand the need to wear glasses. Everyone over 40 should be wearing glasses either for near or far vision. But hearing aids are less common and therefore less accepted. Maybe hearing aids are considered a sign of weakness. Not everybody loses a significant amount of hearing with age, unlike vision.
Mom finally convinced dad to have his hearing checked. The doctor washed the wax out of his ears and he could hear fine.
Also, hearing aids have a notorious reputation for being inadequate. So, if you see a hearing aid, you don’t know whether to shout at or ignore the person. Unless the person responds, you don’t know if they heard you or not.
Kinda like the old man who got a hearing aid but didn’t tell anyone how much better he could hear. But he did change his will three times in three weeks.
