Hearing Aids and airport scanners?

hearing aids
braillemaster asked:

My friend and I have a dream to travel outside of the country to see our friends. She is hearing impaired and wears one aid. If we were to go through a scanner at the airport, would she be forced to remove her hearing aid before walking through it? (It’s quite a hassle for her because she has no thumbs) I would like to accommodate my best friend in these nightmarish times of air travel. Thank you for helping me do that!!!! :D

My Dad has to deal with a similar situation, due to a pace maker.

Have her bring a note from her Doctor explaining the hearing aid.

No, she will not need to remove it. I have profound hearing loss which means out of both my ears I can only hear noises like car horns, birds, different people talking, but cannot understand it. I only use my hearing aids to assist me for driving and things like that. I travel frequently due to my husband is in the Navy. I do not have to remove my hearing aids when going through security checkpoints. If they make a hassle about it you can have them do a visual inspection or have them cup her ear so it makes noise. Other then that they are not really allowed to touch medical devices. I include from the TSA a list of all the info you need.
