Is it wrong to reject Cochlear Implants and Hearing Aids?
I am going deaf and I have been given the option of a hearing aid for now, and a cochlear implant later once my hearing is severely gone.
I have rejected this as I don’t believe in such devices and think I should at the very least try and cope and accept being deaf and probably embrace it.
Is it wrong for parents to force cochlear implants on their kids?
edoedo: I sort of agree with you regarding hearing people… if I were to ever want a device to help me hear better I would only go for a hearing aid instead of a cochlear implant because at least hearing aid can be easily switched off and removed (don’t want something on my skull)!
In regards to oral communication, I ain’t that good at it anyway and prefer more silent methods of talking such as text and hopefully soon sign language… more intimate and better I think… don’t need the loudest voice to get attention of everyone.

ya know. i don’t know any deaf parents who force their kids to be deaf if they’re hearing…
Truth is though, I was born hearing impaired and I could not imagine going through life not using it. I love what little hearing I have.
although I’m not quite sold on the implants quite yet. They scare me. But I don’t know a blind person who doesn’t wish they could see.
It’s your choice though ya know

I would not go for a cochlear implant until my hearing was completely gone IF then. Whatever residual hearing you have you will lose with a cochlear implant. Few people become 100% deaf - you can still hear very loud sounds - or certain ranges of sound. You may adjust to your deafness and feel perfectly ok with whatever level of hearing you have.
As for the hearing aid - I would say go for it. You always have the choice not to use it.
I’m on the fence about Cochlear implants for kids. While I think the decision should wait until a person is an adult, I realize the best chance for a person to adjust to them well and have good quality oral communication skills is to get them as early as possible. So I guess that means I am OK with it for infants and young children, but older children should have a strong say in it, and teenagers should absolutely have the choice.

if you are old enough to undersatnd–it is perfectly okay to reject teh implant–its a matter of personal choice–no one has a right to tell you one way or teh other what to do
unless…you are going to sit around and whine that you can’t hear—than people have teh right to get on your case–
most people i have heard of taht refuse teh implant do not sit around and whine
its a tough choice for parents….hearing has its benefits–especially with young children just learning about the world andlanguage..
and while a child can choose not to use it as he gets older–the implant can’t be undone..

Well I can try give you a short answer if I can.
Is it wrong to reject Cochlear Implants and Hearing Aids? To my answer is Yes and no.
So the answer it yes so allow me explain this….. Do you know thos wolves are losing thier lands because they don’t have the rights to stop those people but people don’t care about it And those wolves have no power because they don’t know how to read or their rights.
It is same thing with Deaf child or children; those parents do what they think it is best for them but most of time the answer is NO. Because many Deaf babies don’t know their rights and just like those wolves don’t know their rights. Sad it is? It is all about the money and greedy!
Yes is is extremely wrong for them to force thier kids when they don’t know their rights and it is way too early for them to get CI.
So, have you lately ask those kids with Cochlear Implants about George Washington the first Prez of the America? Now , can you tell me how many Deaf child with CI know that George Washington have a wood teeth? Most of them don’t know! Do you know why is that? Because they focus their their speech too much time while they have CI on it! And that hurt their future just like those wolves can’t stand up for themselves.
So yes, I do support Cochlear Implants in some what…. it is good for Hearing people when they lost their hearing: because they already learned how to talk and know the sounds…… Yes they can get their CI, I support it! But for kids? NO!
No no no no.
Today too many Hearing people are forcing Deaf people to learn how to speak but their education got way behinded because of this.
Let them be who they are.
That all, I have to say.

It is not wrong to reject cochlear implants and hearing aids. Each individual needs to decide for themselves, based on their own needs and preferences. Whatever they decide, they (and others) have to accept and live with that decision.
When a young child is involved, the parents have to make the decision about cochlear implants, based on what they think is in the best interest of the child. It can be a tricky decision, because there are pros and cons for both options and you can never completely predict the outcome.
When the child in question is old enough to understand their options and have an opinion on them, it is my opinion that their opinion should be considered and respected. I don’t think it’s right to force cochlear implants on a child that strongly objects to it for valid reasons.
Hearing aids are easier to deal with, because they can be taken off at any point if the person doesn’t want them and there is no risk involved, while with a cochlear implant there are risks and the procedure cannot be undone.

You have to do what you believe is right for you. Parents would not make the decision for their child to have a cochlear implant easily, ultimately parents are doing what they believe is right for their child. To try and cope and accept being deaf is the decision you have made, just remember a cochlear implant is not a bad thing. A cochlear implant has made a difference to my father, his hearing is still far from perfect but it is much easier for him to communicate.

Depends on the age of the kid.. You can get them later I assume or is that a permanent call?
I see no reason to go with both but How would I know. I get too much noise in my life. That should be a personal choice I think. Then there’s people out there that get amputations for no reason too.

I am fine with cochlear implants as long as people understand that it’s not going to “cure” me.
I will always be deaf, and the only reason I wear the cochlear implant is so that my communication skills are better with the hearing people that don’t know sign language.
I believe that parents shouldn’t force it on kids that are old enough to understand what will happen with having one.
I have a cochlear implant, but at the same time I have a lot of “Deaf Pride”
Too often I see parents making their kids get implants when they are as young as 6 months old, and then they assume that they don’t need to use sign language.
My pet peeve is when those kids are stuck on that middle ground; They can’t completely understand what people are saying, but at the same time they have no clue what is being signed to them.
If you wear a cochlear implant and can talk well but at the same time you can sign fluently, then I don’t have a problem with it.
But if you are closed minded and reject all forms of hearing aids, or you reject all forms of sign language and deaf culture, than I have a very big issue with you.
