No, baby is tested after birth.
Ms. Kimmery @ 2:18 am
i dont think they can and im not sure what the statistics are…but you should go ahead and have it and if you cant handel it you can always give it up for adoption, something so many people want to do
where is everybody? @ 1:59 pm
you can’t test for that before birth.
depends on your family history
they test for that at the well baby check ups
tidgie10211982 @ 2:14 pm
There’s no way to test for that before the baby is born. A hearing test is performed in the hospital before you bring baby home. If it runs in your family, of course it’s likely…

no. that is generally done within the 48 after birth before the baby is released. I do not believe that there are any type of tests that can be done to determine that.

No they test after the baby is born while they are in the hospital. The chances are low and about 33% of babies fail their hearing test the first time.

no wen its born then they test the crap out of it
sns1985 @ 8:37 am
nope they do that after birth.
frogettx4 @ 4:53 pm
no, they get tested for that at birth then they retest them at their follow up appointment when they are 3days old..mine went that way!!
js316 @ 6:28 pm
i dont even see how that would be possible. its not that likely that they would be totally blind or deaf. why are you worried about it? if God blessed you with a child then you will love him/her regardless if something is wrong.

Afterwards…It depends if its going to be genetic, if you or your partner are deaf then its obviously going to be a lot more likely than if theres no history of deafness/blindness in the family

My baby was tested for deafness at birth and tested deaf…we brought her home thinking she was born deaf…I had to take her into a Specialist at 2 months and guess what she has perfect hearing…so if you do get a bad result make sure to get a second opinion……Now she is 14 months and has selective hearing…She only hears what she wants too…LOL

These statistics are someone hard to come by for free; however there are sources.
Being both deaf and blind is rare. Though reliable statistics are hard to come by, DB-LINK, the National Information Clearinghouse on Children Who Are Deaf-Blind, estimates that in the United States 35,000 to 40,000 adults as well as 11,000 children (ages birth to 21) are deaf-blind. Major causes include syndromes such as Usher and Down, congenital anomalies such as fetal alcohol syndrome, prenatal dysfunction such as AIDS and post-natal causes such as head injuries or stroke. If you are worried concerning your own child, I will wish the best for you; however do not despair, many deaf/blind individuals achieve amazing success and fullness in their lives (in many cases more than there “healthy” counterparts).
Your question does raise many interesting issues. In some cases these traits along with many cancers, and life threatening diseases can be screened for and eliminated using gene manipulation. Altering DNA is here and it is a very interesting issue as well as very controversial. If you are interested in this, I would suggest reading Enough: staying human in an engineering age.
Which ever you were seeking, good luck.

Chances of having a baby born deaf or blind is very very low. Most deaf and blind people are not born that way they become that way due to illness or accidents or injury or so on. Back in the day babies became blind due to illness now they put a clear jelly over babies eyes after they are born that protects baby from getting bacteria in their eyes that could lead to blindness.
Now that they have better childhood vaccines it’s not very common that children go deaf or blind. When the baby is born they do a test called the apgar test as soon as they cut the cord and weigh the baby the test is sored from 1-9 9 is the highest. They look at color, tone, alertness, there is a way to look with the little flash light to see if the babies pupils dilated if the eye responds to light then the baby is likely not blind also they do a hearing test on the baby they make a noise and baby should turn in the general direction of the sound they make a loud clapping noise to see if baby startles from the sound. Most 97% of babies pass these simple tests after birth. My son is 14 months his apgar score was a 9 out of 9 so that perfect my younger son was a 8 out of 9 and he was fine too. You have a much higher chance of having a perfectly healthy baby than you do of a baby with a disability.

no thats all after birth
dueinjan @ 2:19 am
