How do hearing aids work?
Christine asked:
Thanks, but I mean HOW do they work. A friend in work says she can’t have one because of her ear drum. My mam can’t use one because of nerve ending in her ear. But I’m a prime candidate! (according to the doc)

They amplify the sound. By having a microphone and a speaker it makes everything louder. So, if you have difficulty hearing it make things clearer…

put a sign round your neck telling people to shout at you

they pick up the sounds we would normally hear with a omnidirectional (from all angles) microphone and then a small speaker amplifies the sound into the persons ear so that people with hearing difficulties can hear things with out it being turned up or with out people SHOUTING instead of talking

basically its a small microphone sound waves enter through the microphone get amplified and played through a speaker

The hearing aids are computerised so that they enhance the sounds that are of a frequency that has degenerated in your hearing, this way it ensures that not all sounds are magnified, only those that you need for clearer hearing.
And Jasmine, what makes you say that deaf people are stupid ??

small miniature amplifiers that transmit sounds into your ear channel. lots of different ones, analogue and digital and some are more sophisticated.. can be programmed to select certain frequencies etc. Also some of the expensive ones are cosmetic, in that they are tiny. and fit right in ear , so are inconspicuous. You can select e microphone to hear from all ways or just one. Also work on loop systems in theatres etc. A boon to those who are hard of hearing, they can carry on conversations etc.
