My Grandfather and Father said they could hear the background noise more then what they wanted to hear.

If they’ve suffered from gradual hearing loss, then maybe they don’t know they need one yet. I didn’t know that I needed glasses for years! I guess I assumed that that was the way everything actually looked. Maybe its the same with hearing.

Hearing Aids are Very expensive too. Mine cost 6 thousand dollars. I f they dont have insurance it is quite an investment
