What exactly is the problem?

Leave them in only for short periods of time many times a day so help them getting used to it.

What is it you want to know? I have a 15 year old son who was born deaf, I’ve always found The National Deaf Childrens Society fantastic for info & support.

About 99.99% of babies hear just fine. Have you seen a doctor about any problem you are having??

My brother was born deaf, they realized it when he was very young, before a year. You need to ask your son’s/daughter’s dr. and ask what to do and how often to use them, they should explain everything. I would also join a support group (my mother did and it helped her a lot!) and try taking a course for sign language, we all took the classes and it was great for us all to know. Good luck..

Always check the volume. Start by using them for something soothing such as nursery rhymes which can be repeated many times. Get your baby used to hearing gradually. Join a support group. Your audiologist should be able to give you more ideas as well.

My daughter, now 3 1/2 yrs was 8mths when she got her first hearing aid,she has a mixed hearing loss but it is also progressive . . . we go in for cochlear implants next week.
It takes a lot of patience to get them used to the aids we have lost many over the years, she now tolerates them well but they don’t give her good enough access to all sounds so her speech is slow in developing, hence he implant.
I too have had great support from the NDCS, we have a good local group in our town and the national organisation runs events in Scotland, like a Newly Diagnosed Weekend where parents from all over the country attend . . . these run throughout the UK.
Membership is free to parents of deaf kids.
