I have a behind the ear hearing aid and I’ve been getting funny buzzing, static type noises. What’s causing it

I’ve been wearing my behind the ear hearing aid for a few years now and recently I have noticed that I get short busts of a funny buzzing or static sound. I’m not near any devices that could cause this. Anyone have any ideas on what’s going wrong?

Could the battery be going out? If so you need to get a new one and test it out.

Get ye to the hearing repair-est! I suspect it’s not a bad battery. If you’ve been wearing aids this long, you what your aid does when the battery goes south. More likely is a problems with the electronics. I obviously can’t diagnose the problem from this distance, but I would suspect one of the following. 1) A bad connection (solder joint or wire), 2) a bad microphone, or 3) a bad speaker - or a combination of any of the above, 4) the speaker or microphone are loose within the aid (the glue has come undone). And of course, the ever popular - your amplifier chip has decided to bite the big one. If your aid is over 5 years old, it’s to some degree living on borrowed time. They all die eventually. The ear isn’t the nicest neighborhood to work. You’ve got to put up with a lot of gunk (ear wax), it’s hot and humid, and loud noises may fry your innards. Check to see if the aid is still on warranty and/or see if you insurance covers a new one. Unfortunately, I think this one is going to cost you some bucks. :-(
