jenniescrystleheart asked:

Allstate refuses to replace dads hearing aids and they wont reimburse his money either…they wont relace our cell phones and many, many other items, but dad has no insurance cause mom had to allocate alot of her s.s.i. onto him (called a spin down from her social worker) so dad “appears” to have too much income, so he cannot afford insurance. My daughter passed aWAY LAST MArch and he is very sad, I wish I could help aleve his saddness alittle bit with getting him a set of less expensive used hearing aids as soon as possible!?!?! Can anyone help us out?

Contact your local social services, or senior services agency and see if they can refer you to someone in your area that could help you out.

There MUST be a way. Perhaps people donate such items when someone passes away. It would just be a matter of finding out where those are donated to.

Good luck and bless you for thinking of him. It would be a very lonely world if you could not hear.

In the state I live in there is an organization called the Lion’s Club. They help people who cant afford things like eye glasses and hearing aids. If there is something like that where you live give them a call.

Several things: Contact an audiologist. He may be able to obtain some refurbished aids at a greatly reduced cost. They would be BTE (behind the ear) but would still be quite effective.

You may wish to contact the local Lions Club as they often have programs in place to help financially.

You may wish to speak to someone at his church as there may be some programs there that may help out.

Short of getting hearing aids there are some nice “assistive listening devices” that can be purchased to use in the home, personal amplifiers, personal FM systems, TV infrared systems and telephone amplifiers. Some states offer free amplified telephones to their residents who have hearing impairments.

I think a good place would be to start with a good audiologist to see what they can recommend. If you need a referral to an audiologist ask your family physician and they will guide you in the right direction. Good luck!
