What kind of help is available for people that have a hearing defect in Virginia?

hearing aids
luvitiam asked:

My Mother lives in Rich. Va. She’s on a monthly fixed income, her insurance (CareNet) does not cover for hearing aids. Her recent visit to the hearing clinic indicates that she’s lost 70% of her hearing. I fear for her safety, and have other concerns for her. Hearing aids are very expensive, and she can’t afford one. Is there any help for her?

Don’t be silly. People hear with their ears. You can’t have a hearing defect in your Virginia.

Hearing aides are indeed expensive. Unfortunately, most programs that are state funded DON’T cover this sort of thing. Does your mother own her own home? Is their a mortgage on it? Is she 62 or over? Depending on the answer, she could apply for a reverse mortgage on her home, thus acquiring the money for hearing aides.

Sorry about your mom, but at least you live in Virginia. In West Virginia you’re looking at leeches and a bottle of whiskey.

There is all kinds of help. Does she live in the City of Richmond or in a county outside of Richmond? Whichever it is, contact their department of social services. They have assistance. Really, they can help with the hearing aid. She’s not the only one on a fixed income. The have programs!

Good luck!
