Does anyone know where I can get a hearing service dog?

hearing aids
Upnorthgal40 asked:

I live in Kalkaska,Michigan and I am looking for a hearing service dog for myself since I wear hearing aids and they do not help me out much with hearing sounds until it is almost to late. I have a moderate to severe hearng loss and would appreciate all the kind help that you people care to offer me. Transportation is another problem.

Speak to your healthcare provider and they can refer you to an organization in your area that manages and provides this type of service. If you were to walk in to the organization they would have to speak with your doctor anyway, so the easiest way is to go through them.

Below are several websites to get you started. Different groups have different accommodations for transporting animals, although they will want to train you with the dog after the dog has been trained. Also, my husband works with deaf people (he’s a social worker). Some of his clients have dogs as pets who have gradually picked up some helpful skills on their own.

Here’s an article on how to get a service dog:

It includes information on how to find a program based on where you live.

Good programs are going to require that you stay at their facility for a couple of weeks for team training. Most will expect you to cover the cost of travel to and from the facility. So if you can find one close by you may be better off.
